IT WAS A CHANCE MEETING AT A BUS STOP IN 2019 WHICH SPARKED THE ‘IRMA’ COLLECTION

Artisan weaver, Irma (pictured below), was weaving on her backstrap loom whilst awaiting a bus, and her work was simply extraordinary. She hails from the K'iche ethnic group who are celebrated for their intricate style of Maya weaving and long admired by the founders of A RUM FELLOW.

Since this serendipitous moment, A RUM FELLOW set up a weaving cooperative that has grown to 20 female artisans from Irma's immediate community, providing important economic independence and empowerment for indigenous Maya women and helping to preserve the culture of a beautiful weaving technique.

The IRMA Collection is a celebration of extraordinary craft, with each panel of brocade fabric made up of 134,000 handcrafted stitches. The 4 designs fuse a contemporary creative vision with the most traditional of weaving techniques to create textiles to be relished as artworks or functional design accessories.
